The basic understanding of empathising is to understand the user such as, what they like and what they need. Empathise is the first step or stage in design thinking. For the information, empathise is coming from observing users enables design thinkers to uncover deep and meaningful needs (both overt & latent). The goal of this process is to discover gaps between what people do and what people say they do.
Empathise method:
Observe; Users and their behaviour in the context.
Engage: Interact with and interview users.
Immerse: Experience what users experience.
Contextual Inquiry
This is the need-finding method.
The Master / Apprentice model allows the customer to teach us what they do!
- master does the work & talks about it while working.
- we interrupt to ask questions as they go.
A hybrid approach is combining more than one empathize method in one approach like direct observation + interviewing to elicit more details. In that approach we need to consider the Where, How, and What expose the Why.
Reflection
I learn about empathising on this topic. This is the topic where we need to understand the user for example, what they like to use every day, what they need to make their life happy and etc. this kind of process can be implement to maximize the user need in our system.
